Sports apparel and footwear giant Nike has brought to life the brand's first-ever self-lacing shoes it first introduced in the 80s sci-fi comedy adventure film Back to the Future.
Called the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0, the pair of sneakers is the first product to feature the company's adaptive lacing system, which allows the shoes to adjust to the wearer's foot shape and weight distribution. The system works by using a network of internal cables made of fishing line and pressure sensors at the soles. This can be tightened or loosened through a pair of buttons near the tongue.
And because the internal cable system runs on electricity, the shoes need to be recharged. The LEDs in the heel light up when the shoes are tightening or when the battery is low. It takes approximately three hours for a full charge, which is good for about two weeks. Charging is done using a magnetic clip-on charger.
The HyperAdapt 1.0 will available for retail starting November 28 at select Nike stores in the US. The company have yet to announce the price.
