Recent releases range from plaid and striped designs, to models featuring detailed embroidery of peacocks and other traditional patterns. Many companies are also incorporating tassels, fringe ends and sequins in their products.

Colors range from pastels and earth tones, to bolder hues such as red, purple and orange.

For materials, options include cotton, wool, silk and acrylic. Designs that combine silk with cotton or wool are also available.

Cotton is typically sourced from the states of Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Telangana. Wool is procured from Jammu and Kashmir, while silk is usually from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
