Technology for voice emotion tracking has been developed.

Affectiva, a US-based AI company, already has technology for speech emotion detection which Digital Trends sees will give rise to smarter voice assistants.

The company, recognizing that emotion tracking in voice is as important as that in facial expressions, developed what it calls Emotion AI. If adopted in popular AI assistants today, smart home controls can meet more specific needs of users. It is not hard to imagine now voice-activated smart speakers sensing if their owner is feeling happy, sad, excited or angry, and making adjustments in carrying out orders, providing more services aside from what is asked of them, and learning over time how to address better such emotions.

Affectiva's Emotion AI can do what it does for it uses a multisource collection of naturalistic speech data and deep-learning technology. It also has been "trained" by experts to recognize pattern changes in voice. The said changes serve as hints helping the AI identify emotions.

This emerging technology could make the voice control trend bigger and the race more exciting now that smart voice assistants are becoming more significant and integrated almost everywhere. According to BI Intelligence, the voice assistant device base is poised to exceed 7 billion by 2020 and makers are improving their sales strategies. Big names in smart home electronics can use helpful technologies like Affectiva's AI to gain advantage over competitors in the growing market.
