Wireless charging revolutionized the way we power our phones, computer mice and other gadgets, letting us get rid of those tangle-prone cables. This will also be the norm for game controllers soon. Wireless solutions provider Powercast has already started the trend by releasing the world's first wireless charging grip for Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons.
As many know, Nintendo's official Joy-Con grips requires cables. Powercast's grip not only holds the Joy-Cons like a regular grip, it charges them wirelessly up to 2ft via its "over-the-air energy tech". The technology is said to make use of RF energy which is converted to DC power. Converted RF energy is sent via a plug-in rectangular cube transmitter to the receiver inside Powercast's grips which recharges the Joy-Cons.
What attracts gamers to this controller grip is that it allows Joy-Con use even while charging. Power supplied is said to last 38 hours, good for all-day gaming. In terms of wireless charging range and connectivity, what’s remarkable is that Powercast is working to extend it to 80ft and 30 devices at once, according to a report by Digital Trends.
With the technology making news and interesting for a lot of consumers, wireless charging can be a hit in the gaming electronics industry just like how it was in the smartphone market. Don't be surprised if joypads or game controllers from other manufacturers get wireless charger compatibility or come with their own wireless chargers soon. Mark the trend and these potential hot products in your sourcing list as early as now.
