Chinese manufacturers of COB LED modules continue to emphasize high brightness, consistency and stability, wide viewing angle and long operating life to meet requirements in lighting and backlighting applications.
The typical specifications are a rated power of 2 to 200W, luminous efficacy of 100 to 130 lm/W, color temperatures of 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 and 6,000K, CRI of over 80, viewing angle of 120 degrees and operating temperature of -35 to 60 C.
COB LED modules for indoor and outdoor displays have a pixel pitch of P0.7 to P3 and a refresh rate of more than 3,840Hz, with water-resistant versions rated at more than IP65.
In addition to conventional wire-bonded units, more advanced flip-chip types can be sourced from China.
To broaden their selections, companies are exploring other technologies, one of which is COB+MLED for displays. Suppliers believe that this will be the future trend for enabling superhigh definition of P0.3 and below. A major player, Changchun Cedar, has presented 0.3mm-pitch COB+MicroLED modules for LED displays and TVs. It is said to be the first such kind in China.
Across COB LED module types, products are compliant with industry standards such as UL, CE and RoHS.
Manufacturers usually source LED chips, gold wires and substrates from domestic providers. They expect chip costs to stabilize in 2026 after hitting rock-bottom in the previous year and leading to lower module prices. In the high-end segment, however, quotes for modules will likely increase because of rising demand.
