After last year's festive season being a bit different from the usual due to lockdowns, restrictions, and strict health protocols, consumers are likely to make the Christmas celebration this 2022 extra special.

Forecasts from Bain, Deloitte and Mastercard, as reported by CNBC, revealed that holiday sales are expected to grow at least 7 percent this year compared with last year's sales. There is also more confidence in Christmas spending this year with 30 percent of shoppers planning to spend more on presents and celebrations compare to the 13 percent that intended to do so in 2020, according to an eBay Ads 2021 report. Retailers are also hopeful that there will be a dose of normalcy this December.

When it comes to holiday decorating, consumers are looking forward to a more "normal" holiday season and feeling more optimistic this year - an outlook that could prompt consumers to prepare for Christmas earlier this 2022. eBay Ads' research also found that this year's celebration will be more traditional, exciting and nostalgic.

Check out these decorating ideas that evoke feelings of nostalgia, festivity and optimism:

Creating a picture-perfect table through artful and decorative pieces is a popular holiday decorating trend that's especially creating buzz on social media. Some consumers use garlands as a centerpiece, and artistically arrange their tableware and flatware with Christmas ornaments. Themes range from elegant, minimalist, floral, checkered, traditional and festive Christmas colors to Nordic, geometric and pattern-based ones.

The use of eco-friendly, recyclable and biodegradable products is a growing trend among consumers across all markets worldwide and the holiday decor category is no exception. Consumers are opting for more environmentally friendly ornaments that are made of or use natural materials. They are also looking into Christmas decor that are reusable and can be used to enhance the home all throughout the year.

Natural colors bring comfort and coziness to any space. These hues are versatile and evoke a sense of nature in the home, giving a sense of calm and peace which is essential especially at a time when reconnecting with nature is limited due to the pandemic. Shades of orange, brown, tan, green and gray, as well as gold, terracotta, burnt reds, light blues, driftwood, ochre and umber help create an ambiance of tranquility to counter stress and anxiety.

Festive lights

Festive lights are a staple during the holiday season. LED types, specifically, are becoming more common because of their energy efficiency, durability and versatility. String, color-changing, curtain, novelty, C9, rain or meteor shower, snowflake, solar-powered, laser, globe, dimmable rope and candy cane LED lights are among the popular options.
