The dropshipping market will continue to rise in the coming years as the e-commerce sector and consumer preference for online shopping grows even further. But what is dropshipping to begin with? For starters, it is a retail fulfillment process where brands, entrepreneurs or store owners don’t manage and distribute their product inventories directly and instead outsource the procuring, inventory and shipping of products to a third party.

According to industry research provider The Insight Partners, the dropshipping market is expected to reach $591.77 billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 18.3 percent from 2020 to 2027. This growth is fueled by the rising popularity of e-commerce and increasing preference for online shopping, which is further propelled by the proliferation of online marketing tools like Facebook ads and Google ads.
The report added that the Asia-Pacific region, especially India and China, is witnessing surging growth opportunities with the increasing adoption of the dropshipping business model. In China alone, its 2018 online retail sales already surpassed $1.29 trillion as per China Internet Information center. Meanwhile, India’s e-commerce market is predicted to reach $200 billion by 2026, according to its Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Pros and cons
Launching an e-commerce store or starting a retail business often requires a large amount of investment – from time and capital to machinery and other resources. With dropshipping, there is reduced risk, time efficiency and low start-up costs because businesses don’t need to invest heavily on acquiring inventory or to set up a physical store. Moreover, buyers only pay for products that are already sold.
Selling a wide variety of items and offering products instantly are also easier and cheaper with dropshipping unlike when purchasing inventory. Dropshipping also offers flexibility to merchants since they can work with multiple suppliers, and directly communicate with manufacturers and customers at the same time.
In terms of the disadvantages of dropshipping, one of the most common challenges is having low profit margins since the market is a highly competitive one and many retailers are taking the same route. Buyers may also encounter issues in shipping costs and inventory, especially if they’re working with multiple suppliers who may also be fulfilling multiple orders of other businesses.
If done right and properly, though, dropshipping can lead to high customer satisfaction, a sustainable way to expand one’s business and good cash flow with a minimal investment.

Jewelry, watches and jewelry storage boxes are some of the popular products in the line.
Fashion Apparel
The trend in streetwear and athleisure fashion continues to grow and diversify, making the apparel market a viable category for expansion and profitability. The global market is poised to reach $605.4 billion by the end of 2022, according to The Business Research Company. Buyers can capitalize on the popularity of sportswear, men’s wear, women’s wear, fashionable outerwear, fitness outfits, shirts, jackets and track pants.

Consumer trend is shifting toward health and wellness. McKinsey & Company’s research on the wellness market showed that consumer interest in this $1.5-trillion market is growing, with consumers interested in having better health, fitness, nutrition, appearance, sleep and mindfulness.

Drills, screwdriver sets, measurement tools, ladders and lighting products are some of the most lucrative products to sell online under the Hardware & DIY category. 360iResearch’s report stated that the global construction and building materials market is expected to reach $1,282.56 billion by 2025.

The global sports and outdoor market is poised to reach $99.86 billion by 2025, according to Statista. The marketplace offers a plethora of high-growth products that are profitable such as hiking, kayaking, fishing, cycling, surfing, skiing and boating products.
Toys
Toys are durable, timeless and perfect children’s gifts for any occasion. According to Fortune Business Insights, the global market is forecast to grow $230.64 billion by 2028. Pop-it and fidget toys are among today’s most trendy toys while bath and educational toys remain the major driving force in the sale of classic toys.
