Exports to these locations are facilitated by Xinjiang 29 national ports. In fact, textile and apparel shipments to Central Asia and Russia increased by 60 percent YoY. About 70 percent of exports went to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The former is Xinjiang's largest export destination in the region.

Overall, China has shipped $2.5 billion worth of apparel and fabrics in 2015 through the ports in the region.

Xinjiang is also known for producing the country's best cotton and is China's biggest producer of the crop. Last year, it produced 3.5 million tons of cotton, accounting for 60 percent of the nation's total output.
